About UGC NET

UGC-NET decides eligibility for the award of a Junior Research Fellowship and appointment as Assistant Professor, for appointment as Assistant Professor and admission to Ph.D., or for admission to Ph.D. only, in Indian universities and colleges. The December 2026 cycle is a computer-based test held by the National Testing Agency.

There are two parts in one sitting of 3 hours (180 minutes), with no break. Part I has 50 compulsory multiple-choice questions (100 marks) on teaching and research aptitude. Part II has 100 compulsory multiple-choice questions (200 marks) on the subject the candidate chose. The December 2026 bulletin does not give a separate time for each part. Its computer-based-test procedure describes one countdown for the examination and allows the candidate to move between sections during that time.

Each question has one answer and carries 2 marks. A wrong answer does not reduce the score, and a question left unanswered or only marked for review scores nothing. The medium is English and Hindi, except for language subjects. If a translation is ambiguous, the English wording is final.

Eligibility uses the aggregate of both parts. To be considered, a candidate must have appeared in both parts and scored at least 40% aggregate (General and General-EWS) or 35% aggregate (SC, ST, OBC-NCL, PwD, PwBD and third gender). The number declared eligible for Assistant Professor is 6% of those who appeared in both papers on the basis of a master's degree, allocated by the reservation policy and then by subject. Junior Research Fellowship slots are a further allocation. Where a subject is held in more than one shift, raw marks are normalised by the equi-percentile method in the bulletin. This site's timed practice test pairs Paper 1 with Commerce. Education and Political Science are the other Paper 2 subjects prepared here; the pool does not cover the rest of the subject list.
